Meet Wafia Al-Rikabi AKA WAFIA, the 22-year-old Brisbane-based songwriter and vocalist who today announces the highly anticipated release of her latest single ‘Heartburn’ following an overnight world premiere on triple j’s Good Nights with Linda Marigliano and details of her forthcoming XXIX EP out November 20 via Future Classic. Listen to it below.

Heartburn’ follows our initial introduction to her back in December 2012 with the impressive cover of Mario’s ‘Let Me Love You‘ that topped Hype Machine charts and amassed over 5 million online plays to date. More recently, she featured on ‘Breathe in’ with Japanese Wallpaper and Charles Murdoch’s Frogs‘ alongside Ta-ku and Hak. Just last week, Wafia teamed up with Ta-ku once more with a #1 Hype Machine accredited cover of Kanye West and Estelle’s ‘American Boy’ (re-titled ‘American Girl’) which you can listen to here.

The XXIX EP, written at Wally De Backer’s property in 2014, includes production from Ta-ku and Thrupence and guest vocals from Vancouver Sleep Clinic. Titled XXIX, the body of work represents the atomic number for copper, which much like the element itself, covers themes of transition and change.

Wafia will be featuring as a guest vocalist in Ta-ku‘s set at New York’s MoMA PS1 this weekend and will also appear as part of his live show at Field Day, Southbound and Beyond The Valley over NYE.
