Spacey Jane’s ‘Lots Of Nothing’ out now; “electric and infectious” (NME)

June 25, 2021

Spacey Jane today shares their new single, “Lots Of Nothing,” a crisp, warm & nostalgic guitar jam powered by jet fuel vocals. Listen to “Lots Of Nothing” and watch the kinetic-yet-cozy video out today HERE.

On the heels of their 2020 debut album SunlightSpacey Jane has garnered tens of millions of streams, sold out three national tours, and hit #2 in triple j’s iconic Hottest 100 2020 poll. The Perth-based four-piece take nods from the likes of Kings of Leon, The 1975, Real Estate; compacting deeply personal stories of failed relationships, mental health struggles and the escapism of your late-teens/early-twenties into jangly summer dreamscapes.

Of “Lots Of Nothing,” Spacey Jane says, Lots of Nothing is about wrestling with the parts of yourself that you don’t like and how you can see those traits as a whole other person. It’s about trying to accept all the parts of yourself, good and bad, before you are able to work on the person that you want to become.”

Incredibly relatable, “Lots Of Nothing” and the video that accompanies it show the frenzied feeling of when apathy meets yearning. “my head’s filled with lots of nothing, come on you must think something of it,” Caleb Harper sings – almost shouts – as his voice cracks in the most grown-up way possible. Along with the summery jangle of guitars from Ashton Hardman-LeCornu, the peppy drums from Kieran Lama (who also manages the band), and Peppa Lane’s effortless bass and dreamy harmonies, there’s an innocence written and revoked in everything this band does. As they move from room to room in a dingy but well-dressed apartment, the charm and addictive nature is on.

Arguably one of Australia’s most meteoric breakout acts of 2020, their debut album Sunlight reached #2 on the ARIA album charts, #2 in the triple j Hottest 100,won the triple J Album of the Year Poll, among other accolades, and pre-pandemic landed them on festival stages like Falls Festival, Splendour in the Grass, and more. Lots more to come from Spacey Jane this year, in spite of what the title “Lots Of Nothing” could suggest… stay tuned.
