Seattle’s Parisalexa today shares “Slimthick”, the last single from her forthcoming debut full-length project, 2 Real, due out May 8th, 2020. Mashing up the brass-laced buoyancy of ’90s R&B, booming half-time drums and the filth of the mid-aughts’ crunk-flavored hip hop, 21-year-old Paris’s incredible songwriting craft is once again on display. Speaking to the message behind the track, Paris says, “When I was growing up I didn’t have a lot of women around me who were shaped like me. I had to learn to be confident in what I looked like by myself. Since I found that confidence I’ve made it my mission, not only to hold onto it but to spread it to other girls who may need the boost just like I did. The truth is we only get one body, and every stretch mark is a sign of growth that should be celebrated! Whether you’re slim or thick, you’re a real bad b*tch. Don’t forget that!”

Packing so many styles and references into one track is a fine balance, but doing it well over and over again throughout an entire album is even more delicate. Paris achieves this throughout her debut project, 2 Real, traversing the ups and downs of romance with soulful ballads, alongside old-school R&B jams celebrating her blackness, self-worth, body image, and more.  “This project,” says Paris, “is an invitation to the listener, whoever they are, to be themselves and to celebrate themselves”, a radiant, intimate conversation about what’s really good. 

With her impressive vocals and commanding presence, both on the mic and on the stage, Paris has garnered comparisons to ’90s luminaries like Monica, Brandy, and Faith Evans, and praise from Genius, KEXP, HotNewHipHop, Nylon, The Seattle Times, among others, including NPR Music, who recently tapped her for this year’s Austin 100

In a city historically most recognized for its grunge and rock acts, Paris stands at the fore of Seattle’s rapidly growing and diversifying hip hop and R&B scene. Her journey from regional sensation to nationally rising R&B star is now set to culminate with the release of 2 Real.
