Maribou State release new video for ‘Kingdom’ taken from their recent album Kingdoms in Colour

February 7 2019

UK-duo Maribou State today share their new video for ‘Kingdom‘ taken from their recent album Kingdoms In Colour out via Counter Records. Watch it HERE.

Directed by David Horsburgh at Agile Films, the video brings to life Maribou State’s ‘Kingdom (feat. North Downs)’. Drawing on the themes of their recent album Kingdoms In Colour, the visuals build a “universe of picture postcards in bloom”.

David Horsburgh says of the video, “We wanted to create a video that echoed the track’s themes of travel and exploration, playing with the ways in which people travelling can change and transform landscapes as well as themselves. So, a mixed media collage approach really spoke to us; sourcing vintage footage from creative commons sources and then subverting it with VFX to turn it into something new. The flower motif from the band’s album artwork was the inspiration for the flowers that grow throughout the video; out of canyons, eyes and even on the moon!”

Their latest album Kingdoms In Colour came with collaborations with notable musicians like Khruangbin, comparisons to acts such as The XX, James Blake, and Mount KimbieBBC 6 Music’s Album Of The Day‘, Double J‘s Feature Album‘ and support from the likes of Annie Mac, Nick GrimshawGilles Peterson. Press support came from NMEBandcampGQ, and more, with Mixmagnaming them as one of their ‘Artists Of The Year’ 2018

“A kaleidoscopic triumph”
NME (4/5)

“The Perfect End of summer soundtrack”
Q (4/5)

“An LP that drifts elegantly like high summer clouds whether sporadic and dreamy as on the misty-eyed ‘Glasshouses’, or on the hazy, Bonobo-style wig out of ‘Feel Good’”
Mixmag

“Kingdoms In Colour is an album that lingers with you even once it has finished; leaving an afterglow of warmth on everyone it touches.”
The Line Of Best Fit

“Kingdoms in Colour cements the London duo’s status as rising stars within the electronic music scene.”
Exclaim! (8/10)

“Is there anyone doing it as good as these guys right now?”
Stoney Roads

“Kingdoms In Colour has elevated Maribou State from rudimentary makers of chilled house and RnB-infused electronica into something special: craftsmen of globetrotting panoramas who can gift their deceptively complex arrangements with an organic warmth and human touch.”
Double J (Feature Album)

“This duo are definitely one of the most daring in electronic music at the moment.”
