Kelsey Bulkin shares new video for ‘Samsara’

February 7 2019

The Los Angeles vocalist and producer, Kelsey Bulkin today shares her new video for ‘Samsara’. Watch it HERE.

Self-directed and edited alongside Leila Yavari and Pardis Sullins, the video was shot over the course of two days on the beach in her hometown Leucadia. An ode to the mirrored rooms of Jane B par Agnes V, Bulkin describes the video as, “Janet Jackson meets Gidget”.

Kelsey Bulkin continues, “It’s about facing the depression I experienced after becoming a mother and owning every aspect of my experience. The mirrors are versions of me but never the whole picture. As I dance with them I expand and release higher vibrations of myself. For me the making of the video is also an experiment, so what you see is process as well as performance.

Audiences were most recently introduced to Bulkin with ‘Samsara’, the first track from the solo artist in 2018. Self-described as ‘Surf R’n’B’, ‘Samsara’ was written and produced at home using a single octave midi keyboard and mic. One half of former music-duo Made In Heights who released their last LP Without My Enemy What Would I Do in 2015, Kelsey Bulkin burst into solo-dom two years later with her warmly embraced debut offering ‘Andromeda’ and follow up track ‘West Coast Drama’. Most recently, Bulkin was featured as a guest vocalist on ‘Divide’ from ODESZA’s groundbreaking record A Moment Apart.

PRAISE FOR KELSEY BULKIN

“a majestic, low-slung sliver of steely electronic pop”
The Line Of Best Fit

“surrealist synth-pop”
Highsnobiety

“The melange of Purity Ring, Donna Summer and Berlin will take your breath away. The soft dissolves between verse, pre-chorus, chorus all guide you with one hand in yours and a consensual hand on the small of your back. Kelsey’s grammar is on point too.”
Mikey Cahill, Herald Sun

“Bulkin gravitates towards a certain kind of electronic beats where her voice has a natural tendency to float right on top…”
KUTX Song Of The Day

“It’s a charming, soothing number thick with R&B sensibilities and this hazy, almost-DIY-feeling wash, combining glistening, washed-out melodies with a bright vocal line that softly floats over the top.”
Pilerats

“…the wait has been well worth it.”
I Oh You

“The production…completely envelops you, rushing into the chorus in a way that’s relaxing, meditative and overwhelming all at once.”
