Today, U.S. Velvet releases their apocalyptic post-punk mission statement. U.S. Velvet is the project of Zahara Jaime (Eyedress, ZZZAHARA) and Collin Davis (Ynes Mon). Their self-titled debut single finds light in unlikely places— a washed-up Elvis, a poltergeist in Tuscan leather — but anxiety is never far away; and as it creeps in, the allure of escape becomes irresistible. The video for “U.S. Velvet”, directed by Brother Adam Willis (King Krule, Beirut, Parquet Courts) features the pool party to end all pool parties, brightly colored jumpsuits, cardboard cutouts and a cameo from Stones Throw‘s enigmatic Folerio. Collin and Zahara launch a classic horror movie assault on the American Dream: “We live to erase / Take me to a far gone place”

“U.S. Velvet” crackles with intensity and rage but never loses its sense of fun — a party anthem for the apocalypse. “U.S. Velvet’ 12” vinyl coming soon, date TBA. It will also include a dub version by Pachyman (ATO Records).
