May 20 2021

Introducing Jaecy, the Sierra Leonean born, Eora/Bankstown raised artist who today shares his latest release ‘AAJA‘. Listen + watch HERE.

The moniker of John CharlesJaecy spent much of his adolescence surrounded by close friends of diverse backgrounds, who helped to shape his musical upbringing with 50 Cent, Skepta, Stormzy and more. Over time, he began to feel a deeper connection and pull towards UK drill, the genre he found most exciting and relatable to his everyday life. Now, Jaecy has emerged as one of the key artists bustling in Western Sydney’s hotbed of talent, drip feeding singles over the last two years.

Like his trailblazing predecessors, Jaecy stands out from the crowd for his raw delivery, versatile energy and beyond-his-years maturity, reminiscent of Burna Boy and Headie One, co-signed by some of the scene’s most respected acts, Pistol Pete and Enzo. Empowered by his community, Jaecy strives to make music through his own prism of life experience, to better his city, arriving today with a tribute to Bankstown on his latest single ‘AAJA‘.

“This song is one of my more significant ones I wrote in 2019 mainly due to the fact that I really mentally and emotionally tapped in on certain aspects in the streets,” Jaecy shares. “As I was writing I could see images and flashbacks in my head.” AAJA‘ is an honest recollection of his experiences as a boy from the west, from street survival to police harassment and more. Influenced by the various cultural communities of the city, Jaecy taps Indian Australian producer Aywy, to craft a Desi inspired beat laced with old Bollywood samples and a heavy 808 bounce, alongside a verse from A.GIRL on the outro.

With only 3 releases in 2020, including his break out hit ‘WHAT’S GOOD ft. Delawou‘, ‘TRAP TO CHURCH ft. Hooks‘ and ‘LOVE ME OR LOVE ME NOT‘, Jaecy finished the year with just under 8 million streams across all digital streaming platforms, and 800k views on YouTube alongside support from triple j UnearthedFBi RadioFilter ZineCool Accidents and more. Today Jaecy steadies to his imminent rise, with more in store for 2021.

AAJA‘ is out now via The Area Movement, buy/stream it here.
