Donna Missal Shares “sex is good (but have you tried)” produced by Sega Bodega (Lapsley, Shygirl) via Harvest Records

March 25 2021

Known for her emotionally piercing vocals and a cool but relatable air of confidence, Donna Missal today shares the addictively catchy new single & visual for “sex is good (but have you tried),” produced by Sega Bodega (Lapsley, ShyGirl)via Harvest Records (Lauren Auder, Death Grips, Ebhoni). Listen/watch HERE.

Missal first created an a cappella version of “sex is good (but have you tried)” in the confines of her bedroom earlier this year in quarantine. After sending it over to UK producer, Sega Bodega, Missal then shared the beginnings of their track on Tik Tok. The track instantly went viral with fans begging for the finished product. In its final form, “sex is good (but have you tried)” is a modern, playful ode to self love. Bodega’s signature vocal effect and knack for creating danceable-yet-raw electronic music allows the song to feel both intimate and cinematic at once.

Of the new track, Missal shares, “‘sex is good (but have you tried)’ is what came out of me in quarantine life, the product of my bedroom being my environment and everything around me becoming so small and intimate, and such a reflection of this internet-centric thing going on in music. It’s so different for me because i’ve always been like a performer-singer and this is definitely my first time working from a different place than I previously was, both physically and mentally.”

Missal grew up homeschooled in a house with five siblings and a ton of musical instruments. She was raised on traditional rock & country music – her grandmother a songwriter in the 1950s; her dad an 80s musician – but this new song shows a more mellow, confident, stripped-down side to her. This song was made in a small room, but it is booming in its confidence and verve.

Billboard, Interview, MTV, Flaunt, Shania Twain, and more, have offered their high praise for Missal’s warm presence, commanding voice, and vulnerable lyrics. You can see & hear Donna’s powerful, raw energy for yourself in her recent performance for Capitol Cuts, a series of sessions taped at Hollywood’s iconic Capitol Studios featuring Masego and Black Pumas as well. The live performances were released as a digital EP just this past Friday. In her music, Missal is not afraid to challenge cultural norms, gender roles, or share even the most personal and intimate moments of her life. She has toured with the likes of King Princess, Lewis Capaldi, Samia, among others, and recently covered Cigarettes After Sex’s viral track “Nothing’s Gonna Hurt You Baby” to soundtrack the critically praised movie, Promising Young Woman.
