Melbourne-based producer, drummer and now vocalist, Christopher Port is pleased to share a pre-stream of his debut Vetement EP ahead of its official release this Friday 15 July via Pieater. The EP features previously released singles ‘Bump‘ and ‘Heavens‘, plus three new tracks including Port’s vocal debut on ‘Before‘ with label mate, Airling. Listen across Soundcloud, YouTube or Bandcamp now.
Christopher Port says of the song-writing process:
“I spent the last year or so making tracks based around the keyboard, working on my song-writing and exploring interesting harmonies. After this period I let myself go back to making tracks based around the drums, using rhythms and references to dance music (UK Garage, Techno, Footwork, House etc.) to create certain moods in each song. The core of the tracks were written in a day or two, then were refined over a few weeks.”
He continues, “Before ft. Airling’ was mixed by Simon Lam. I mixed the rest of the record myself. After finishing each mix I would test them out in my car, driving around late at night to see if they suited to mood I was trying to achieve.”
The video combines footage of different types of fabric, vivid colours and dancing together and speaks of the wider fashion and dance influences present on the Vetement EP.
Of the clip, Port notes:
“I was lucky enough to have my incredibly talented friends Hamish Mitchell and David McKinnar turn the idea of textures, colours and dance into a concise work of art. David shot the footage and created the visual elements whilst Hamish was the driving creative force behind this clip, directing and editing the entire thing. Charmian Kingston (BUOY) also lent her incredible dancing skills to this project.”
